Adam Walker is one of the Company’s best field agents, a highly trained,
well-honed killing machine when that’s what’s needed. But, he’s also a man of
many secrets, and one of them is that he’s a ninja, one of Japan ’s
mythical death warriors. When another of Adam’s secrets, his lover Kiku, is
killed, he turns to the one person he trusts, fellow agent Shainna Barton.
While Shainna covers for him on a mission, Adam metes out his revenge, and
discovers that his friendship with Shainna has a much deeper meaning that
either of them ever realized…

Exclusive EXCERPT:
Not quite ready to face the prospect of sleeping, knowing
there would be no rest anyway, he showered, made fresh coffee, and settled in
front of another computer. He spent the next few hours learning all he could
about Donald Geoffrey Caisson, and eliminating improbable accomplices. He
didn't stop until he had the names and histories of the five men he'd seen in
the parking lot.
His eyes felt full gritty by the time he pushed his chair
back and looked over at the bed. Turbulent emotions swept through him,
threatening to erupt, as they had for the thousandth time in the past few
hours.
When the low chirp of the comm-link penetrated his fury,
only discipline and sheer willpower enabled him to activate the system and
respond. Surprise and suspicion flared instantly when the director's voice came
over the line.
"Your vacation
starts today, Adam." Michael stated the order without preamble.
Adam narrowed his eyes and paused in thoughtful
consideration before answering. "I'll be free in twenty-four hours."
"You're free
now, Walker ."
The director snapped. "Kiku Shimoda's death has made the national
news—along with a police sketch of the man believed responsible."
Tired and angry, Adam didn't register the implication quite
as fast as he would have normally. Seconds later, he stood frozen with the
chill of his rage.
"I intend to take care of it," he said in a voice
gone soft with lethal intent.
"By the time you get back, it'll be taken care of,
Adam—without your colorful trademarks. The flight's been booked, you'll be met
and briefed in Tangier. You have a reservation at Hotel El Minzah, and your contact
will meet you at the Morocco
Palace . Are you familiar
with it?"
"I know the place." His acknowledgement was
clipped, as much effort as he could afford. "Code word?"
"Hellfire."
Biting back the response that sprang to mind, he went on.
"Backup?" He had to make a conscious effort to contain his temper and
not allow the release he craved.
"Who do you want?"
"Barton," he said without hesitation. His choice
elicited a long pause from the other end of the line. Adam smiled.
"She's unpredictable." Michael finally answered,
his tone soft and speculative.
"I trust her." Adam's smile deepened. He knew all
too well how unpredictable Shainna Barton was. In this instance, he was
counting on it. Adam knew he'd have the partner he wanted when the director
sighed in resignation. Michael, apparently, didn't know everything about their
relationship. At least not at this stage. That was very likely to change
radically though, within the next few days.
"I'll have her briefed and en route within the next
hour."
Adam smiled, and leaned back in his chair. Shainna Barton
was one his few friends because he trusted her with his life. She was loyal to
him, and they had saved each other's lives many times. He disliked partners as
a rule, and the first time they'd been paired on a mission, he had truly not
liked her. She was cocky, reckless, and far too unaware of her beauty. She'd
distracted him more than once, even if she had been mostly ignorant of it.
When Kiku had come into his life, he had been less lonely.
Shainna had become a loved and respected friend over time. Each mission they
completed together went smoothly and without incident. No one cleaned up after
them because it was never necessary. The attraction was there, though. He'd had
more than one fantasy about Shainna's lush curves over the years, and he was
well aware that the desire was mutual. He had refused to look too closely at it
while Kiku was with him. Now that she was gone, his innate honesty was pushing
him to look at a lot of things from a different angle. His aloneness was only
one aspect of his loneliness, and he sensed Shainna would be one of the rare
people who would understand all aspects of his secretive and complex
personality.
He rose, pushing himself from his chair with a weariness he
hasn't noticed before. He was getting too old for this madness. Maybe it was
time to consider retirement, while he still had all his faculties, as well as
all his body parts...

Who is Denyse?
Canadian born and bred, and a lifelong dreamer, I began writing at an early age and can’t recall a time when I wasn’t creating in some artistic form. My life has had several on-going love affairs that shape much of what I write, the American West, Victorian England, cowboys, a passion for pirates, Greek Gods, and Ancient Egypt. The other endless love affair in my life is Italia and all its magic, beauty, and dazzling culture. That passion spills into all aspects of my life.
In the past half dozen years, I’ve signed with over a dozen publishers, and have released books in all lengths and genres, and it’s something I hope to continue to do for many more years. A visit to my website will show the diversity of what is currently available, and the mixing of genres and styles that will be employed in many up-coming projects as well. (All my social site links, etc., are on the About Me page.)

Thank you so much for this chance to showcase one of the older titles on my catalogue. Since I've just signed my first contract with Noble in three years, it's nice to see my first title with them back in the spotlight. Thanks again for all you do, CJ!!
