Special Guest Post ~ Some Like it Royal by Heather Long

I was asked to write something fun about Some Like It Royal. Would you believe that I shocked myself? Repeatedly.

One of the magical parts of writing a book is building a world and immersing yourself. Now remember, I said this is only one of the magical parts. What happens when we go back to read it—through revisions, edits, proofing, and more is that some of the magic wears off. It dulls a little. All the surprises and the twists and turns have been seen, so they don’t really affect us again…except that wasn’t the case with Some Like It Royal.

Few books have had the effect on me that this one did. I literally laughed so much while I was writing it, I forgot it was supposed to be work. Later, something even more magical happened, when I went back and read it a couple of months later, I found myself enjoying the story on a whole new level. This really is a labor of love for me.  When I made a fourth pass through it to catch some typos, I kept losing myself in the story.

By the time I was working on the editor’s remarks, I did it again.

And again on the line edits.

And again on the galleys.

I have never had this happen to me with a book before, yet with Some Like It Royal, it’s happened every single time.  To add to all of this, with each subsequent book in the series I’ve been transported to that same feeling of magic. I may never stop writing these…they’re like the perfect cocktail of pure happiness that every author needs in their writing day.

I hope you enjoy it at least half as much as I did.

About the Author:
National bestselling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas summertime. From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories—her characters drive the books. When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.

Enjoy the following excerpt for Some Like It Royal:

Three days later, he leaned back in the auditorium of the theater he’d rented for the day. His secretary’d placed an advertisement in all the papers for a casting call. They’d listed very specific qualities and appearance. He’d gone through every resume and photograph that arrived until he found Alyx Dagmar’s.
She was the only one he wanted, and she was the only one who made the cut.
He wrote the script himself. It was a bastardized version of My Fair Lady, but he didn’t care. The names and the places were all that mattered—well, and the princess in question.
The theater crew admitted her, gave her access to a dressing room and the pages she would cold read for the part. Right on schedule she walked out on the stage. He knew she couldn’t see him in the darkened theater.
Clasping his hands together, he sat back and watched as she took her spot. “Whenever you’re ready.” He called quietly, certain it would carry.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.” She lifted her hand as though holding a glass up to make a toast. Dressed in the simple green strapless gown, with her glorious russet hair pinned up, she seemed as glamorous as any model. “It is time for us to remove our masks, to reveal ourselves to each other in the fine tradition of the old-world masquerade. Have you danced with a duke? Did you dine with a princess? Did you discover your true love?”
She flowed three steps toward the lip of the stage, the single spotlight highlighting the magnificent column of her throat. He held his breath. She was better than he imagined. With all the gesture of flourish she mimed the removal of a mask. Her smile lit up her face and he leaned forward.
An air of expectancy hung around her, cloaking her as her smile turned coy, secretive. The notes said she was to react to surprise with a hint of delight. But the riot of emotion she let play over her face captivated him.
With a graceful curtsy, she dipped toward the stage and her gaze roved over the audience. He could almost imagine she hunted for him in the shadows and when she paused to straighten, her chin came up. “Yes,” she said in a clear, true voice. “My name is Princess D’tente.”
It was a stupid name, he grimaced at it, but he’d wanted her to take the message in it.
“And at long last, I am reunited with my family.” She paused again, but this wasn’t in the script. Her smile faltered and fell away.
Her gaze arrowed straight at him, where he sat, arms braced on the back of the seat in front of him.
“You son of a bitch.”
Yep. That definitely wasn’t in the script.

Sensuous Interview of Dilys J. Carnie

Hello everyone, please welcome Dilys J Carnie to Sensuous Promos today as he/she shares with us a little bit about themselves and their work.

Dilys, thank you for joining us today. I know the readers are eager to get to know you , so let’s get started.

Can you tell us a little bit about where you are from?

Since the age of 11 I have lived on a small island called Anglesey here in North Wales. I thought it was only right that I shared with you all a few stories about this beautiful place I call home.

Anglesey (Ynys Mon) is situated of the North West coast of Wales and has two bridges spanning the Menai Straits connecting it to the mainland. Anglesey has six mountains situated to the North side of the island the highest being Mynydd Bodafon at 178 meters.

Anglesey is approximately 20 miles by 20 miles...about 400 square miles.

Almost the entire coastline of Anglesey is designated as an area of outstanding beauty
and it is an island full of nature walks with a natural wildlife population. We have our own language which 70% of the population speak.

It is also the home of our royal couple Prince William and his bride Kate who are already familiar figures to be seen around the island.

Anglesey is a place to get away from it all, to relax and enjoy the island’s exceptional beauty.

What does your writing desk look like? What would we find on it right this minute? (Have fun with this question. If your desk is a mess, tell us! J include a picture if you’d like)

My desk is a mess when I am working. At the moment I am working on three manuscripts and I have character sheets everywhere. Coffee as always at my side, I couldn’t function without it. My debt cards because I’d just bought some books to read over Christmas and my vitamin tablets because if I put them away I forget to take them. My office is a little space under the stairs as I live in a very small welsh cottage that isn’t big enough to swing a cat in let alone bring up two children one of whom is five foot eleven. You just have to look at the picture…it’s pretty self-explanatory lol

Do you have any news you’d like to share with us?

I’ve just signed a three book deal with Beachwalk Press…that was and is exciting!

At what point did you first consider yourself a writer?

As soon as I had my first book published in November 2012…It was such an exciting thrill to see and a few months later hold my book with my name in my hands.

Do you have a specific writing style? In other words, are you a plotter or a pantser?

I’m both plotter and punster. I start out with character sheets but end up changing so much that the book is unrecognizable to my first jottings. I like it when my characters take me on there journey…

Is there a message in your book(s) that you want readers to grasp?

Life stinks sometimes and we lose our way. When someone reads my book I want them to feel warm, happy and hopeful that there are happy endings and there not just for books.

How much of your book(s) have a bit of you in the characters?

I guess there are bits and pieces of me in there, life experiences are what makes us able to tell the stories we write with feeling and knowledge.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Nora Roberts

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Maria Force…The Gansett Island stories

Where can our readers find you on the world wide web?

Sensuous Promos Book Spotlight ~ The Touch of Her Hands by Missy Martine

 The Touch of Her Hands
Aurelia Salazar has a special gift the government wants to know more about. She can heal with just the touch of her hands. For five years they kept her hidden away while they studied her. And then two brave Marines helped her escape and smuggled her out of the country.

When some of the children of the Wind River Pack become ill, Zack remembers the young girl and her unique abilities. He goes to South America to find her and bring her back so she can help. He doesn’t expect to find she’s his mate.

Now, they’re racing against the clock to get her back to the States before it’s too late for the children. But Zack isn’t the only one searching for her. What happens when the scientist that held her prisoner for all those years finds them?

Excerpt
Zack squatted down next to the girl. “What do you want me to do?”

“Unfasten his belt and pull his pants down.”

Zack wrinkled his nose and moved to do as she asked. He noticed she turned her face away and blushed as he pulled the trousers down past the man’s boxer shorts, leaving them bunched around his calves. “Okay, I’m pretty sure the damn thing’s broken, Medina. It looks bad. I need to call a medical transport, man.”

Aurelia turned back around and glanced at the injured leg. “That won’t be necessary.” She moved closer to Medina’s body and pulled off her gloves. Taking a deep breath, she rubbed her hands together as if to warm them, and then placed them on his thigh.

As Zack watched, a slight orange glow formed around her hands, highlighting each finger. With her eyes closed, she breathed in and out steadily. It was like she disappeared into her own little world. Medina groaned and then visibly relaxed. His head sank back onto the ground as he sighed.

After a couple of minutes, Aurelia gasped and pulled her hands away. If anything, she was even paler than before. “How is it?” she asked.

Medina moved his leg up and down and laughed. “It’s all better, girl. Damn, I’ve seen you do that before, but it never fails to amaze me. You fixed it.”

“What’s going on?” Zack asked. Medina sighed and awkwardly got to his feet. He pulled up his pants, fastened them, and then reached to help Aurelia stand. Zack frowned when she swayed slightly. “Is she all right?”

Medina nodded. “The healings always take something out of her, some more than others. This was minor compared to some of the things I’ve seen her do.”

“It’s time for you to tell me the truth. What are you doing out here? I know you came from the building because you left the door open.”

“I had to. I needed a way back in where nobody could see me.”

Zack crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m waiting. What’s going on?”

“He’s helping me escape.”

Zack frowned and looked at the girl. “Escape from what?”

“The government,” whispered Aurelia.

“I couldn’t leave her in there any longer, man. They’ve been holding her here, against her will.”

“Why?” asked Zack.

“Because of my gift.”

“Your gift? I don’t understand.”

“She can heal people with the touch of her hands,” said Medina. “It’s not a scam. You saw it for yourself. They found out what she can do and they wanna know more. Hell, they’re keeping her drugged most of the time. They’ve been running all kinds of medical tests when she’s unconscious. I’m afraid of what they’ll try to do next. They can’t figure where her power comes from.”

Zack knew all about having abilities one had to keep secret. “How did they find you?”

Aurelia’s eyes filled with tears. “I’d been able to heal my brother’s small cuts and bruises since I was about five. When my father accidentally backed over his dog, I healed him right there in the driveway. Up until then, I’d kept it to myself, but my father was a witness this time.” She wiped at her eyes. “At first, he was afraid of me, but then he began to wonder how he could benefit from my gift. He wasn’t discreet, and before he could make any real plans, the government made him an offer. Basically, you could say he sold me. They gave him money and a small piece of land and then took me away to live in their labs.”

“How long ago?” asked Zack.

“Five years. I was nine years old when I last saw my family.”

Medina grabbed Zack’s arm. “Please, you’ve got to let her go. They’re planning to transfer her soon, and I might not be able to go with her. She deserves a chance at life.”

“Where were you taking her tonight?”

“My cousin is waiting about a mile from here, through the woods. He’s gonna get her out of the country and take her someplace they’ll never find her. I was gonna go back inside and make it look like she’d escaped.”

“Was Raulston in on this?” asked Zack.

“No, but I knew I could get by him. He’s been drinking on duty lately.”

Zack turned away and walked a few feet. When he turned back, his gaze settled on Aurelia. His coyote wanted closer, wanted to protect the little girl. Nobody should have to live their life as some kind of specimen. “For this to work, It’s gonna have to look like both of us were taken unaware. I wouldn’t be able to explain how she got past me while I was on patrol. You’ll have to knock me out and then go back inside and do whatever you can to make it look like you were overpowered.”

Medina smiled. “Then you’ll help us?”

Zack sighed and nodded. Aurelia moved quickly and threw her arms around his waist. “Thank you, oh, God, thank you. Bless you, sir. I’ll never forget you.”

Zack cleared his throat and pushed her away. “Go on and get her to your brother. I don’t wanna know where you’re going. I’ll be waiting by the back door. When you get back, we can set the scene.”

Medina holstered his gun. “Thanks, Wind River. I’ll owe you, man.”

“Call me Zack, please.” He motioned toward the woods. “Go on and get moving. You’re wasting time.” He stood and watched as the two of them hurried toward the northern border of town. Just before they disappeared into the trees, the girl turned back and gave a small wave. For some reason, his stomach clenched. For a moment, he fought the impulse to chase after her, and then turned to make his way back to the building he was supposed to be guarding. It was definitely going to be a long, cold night.

Sensuous Promos Book Spotlight ~ Not All Who Wander are Lost by Shannon Cahill

Not All Who Wander are Lost

What's the first thing you do when you are a 400 year old Elf Guardian who is being sent to protect a reckless, smart ass, smoking hot young mechanic who is destined to change the world? Visit a cobbler. Crimson knows you need a good pair of boots and a lot of self control for a job like that! But things are not always what they seem. Everyone has secrets, everyone has an agenda. Things are spiraling out of control. Can Finn and Crimson fulfill their entwined destinies and change the world?

About Shannon:
Shannon Cahill lives in Spokane, Washington with the love of her life, her 3 rotten children, and her elderly border collie. When she's not writing, she's reading. She is especially fond of trashy celebrity biographies and passionate love stories, but cannot pass up a good vampire or zombie story.

Prologue

F
inn was fully absorbed by the oil change he was doing when he heard the sound of heels clicking and then a soft, throaty voice say, “Excuse me, you there, can you help me?” Intrigued by a sexy accent that he couldn’t quite place, he slid partway out from under his truck to get a better look at the owner.  He came face to face with the smallest pair of 6 inch heeled thigh high boots he’d ever seen, and above the boots, what could only be described as a mini version of his wildest dreams. He felt himself harden as he struggled to regain his composure.

“How can I help you?” he breathed. His words coming out a little cracked, like he was a teenager again. He knew he was in trouble.

The tiny girl bent over to be closer to him and said in that devastating voice, “My car seems to be having a bit of a problem. Well, actually, more than a bit. It is making a horrible sound and I fear I’ve done some real damage. Can you look at it for me?”

Finn swallowed and tried to find his voice. From that angle, he could see that she may be small, but not where it mattered. She looked to be just under 5 feet tall, even in the soaring heels, compact, but curvy as hell. He couldn’t stop his eyes from lingering on the low neckline of the tight black dress she was wearing. He found himself wanting desperately to tangle his big hands in the long black riot of curls falling into her face. He noticed her eyes were an unusual shade of brown—almost wine colored--and the same shade as the streaks in her hair. She was stunning.

Struggling for control, he found his voice at last. “Of course. Let me get out from under here. Where are you parked?”

“Just outside, “she purred.

At that, she turned and started to walk to the door, then stopped and looked back over her shoulder, “I’m Crimson, by the way. Crimson Thorn.”
